Sterling is an Associate in the Public Finance and Real Estate Groups. Sterling represents trustees, mutual funds,  and other purchasers of municipal bonds that finance a variety of projects, including senior living facilities, student housing, affordable housing, stadiums and hotels. His practice involves preparing and negotiating bond documents, evaluating collateral packages, and reviewing title and survey in anticipation of the financing and construction of projects. When projects are distressed, his practice involves due diligence to determine legal issues and risks as well as working with holders to fashion practical solutions.

Sterling received his Bachelor of Arts in American Studies, Urban Studies, from Yale College in 2015 and his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School in 2019. During law school, Sterling served as co-founder and vice president of HLS Urbanists, a group dedicated to boosting urban programming and coursework at the law school. His team won the Federal Home Loan Bank Affordable Housing Development Competition in 2018. Before law school, he was a development associate at Preservation of Affordable Housing, where he underwrote and secured financing for affordable housing projects.
