CHARLES BERMAN

As Managing Partner and Co-founder, Charles Berman is responsible for BedRock Real Estate Partners, LLC’s investment activities, sourcing, negotiating and closing investments along with cultivating and maintaining strategic relationships with real estate operating and development companies, real estate brokers, lenders, family offices, municipalities and other market participants. BedRock currently has seven apartment developments under construction in Boston, Brooklyn, Queens and DC with others already stabilized or in various stages of planning in similar markets.  Financial partners are currently ten family offices.

Mr. Berman has almost 30 years of real estate investment, development, and management experience. Prior to founding BedRock, he was a Managing Principal and Vice Chairman at MacFarlane Partners. Prior to MacFarlane, he was Founder and President of Avalon Properties (NYSE REIT) which, through a merger, became Avalon Bay Communities, for which he served as President and COO. Earlier, he served as the Northeast Regional Partner and member of the management committee of Trammell Crow Residential Company, a national developer and operator of multifamily residential properties. 

He is currently serving on the Executive Committee of the Harvard Real Estate Academic Initiative. Mr. Berman is a currently education chair of the Young Presidents Organization. He served as chairman of the New Canaan (Conn.) Housing Authority and is a former board member of SafeRent (sold to First American Corporation in 2002), Rent.com (acquired by eBay in 2005), GetActive Software (merged with Convio in 2007) and Fairfield 2000, a non-profit developer of affordable housing in Connecticut.  He is also an advisory to the New Canaan Library on their real estate activities.

Mr. Berman holds a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School and a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from Amherst College.
